Bathroom Safety 101
Preventing Bathroom Slips & Falls
Bathroom injuries are no laughing matter. Slips, trips and falls in the bathroom are more common than you think and unfortunately are the frequent cause of serious injury, particularly among older men and women.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 236,000 people over the age of 15 are injured in bathroom slips and falls each year. Many of these accidents result in injuries requiring hospitalization.
To prevent accidents in the bathroom, there are a number of proactive measures homeowners and caregivers can try. Making sure bathrooms have adequate illumination is important, as many injuries result from people being unable to see hazards. Securing mats and rugs in the bathroom can also help reduce the number of slips, trips and falls, as can installing fall resistant surfaces to bathtubs and showers.
By making your bathroom a little safer, you can help prevent yourself or a family member or visitor from suffering an entirely preventable injury.
